Are We Ready?

The Science

All artwork as initiated through Artificial Intelligence (AI) is carefully run through my aesthetic. First is selection: most queries give 2 - 4 responses. Some of these are ignored, some selected as appropriate to my artistic viewpoint, meaning that my work focuses on what it means to be human at this time, in this place. I am an image junkie: I surround myself with dozens of images and combine, alter, and recharacterize. I am constantly changing their identity. I usually find a story to tell in the final selections.

I start with no goal in mind other than to explore. There can be a kind of terror in this method, if you are not used to it: starting with a blank canvas can be daunting. For me, emptiness is seductive. Oh the joys of discovering gems to fill the breathless space!

Dozens of preliminary sketches, bits and pieces, are created this way, saved, later re-examined/refined/combined. Even after deciding on the final piece, I will put it into a current series and then re-examine it many times before making it public.

Using AI, here is how Google's Bard describes Krepildockerschpe: The word “krepildockerschpe” is a made-up word that Corinne Whitaker uses in her book of the same name. It is a portmanteau of the words krepil," "docker," and "schpe," which are all nonsense words. Whitaker uses the word to represent the absurdity of the human condition and the futility of trying to find meaning in life.

The Artist

Corinne Whitaker, aka DIgital Giraffe, has spent 45 years pondering the why's and why not's of living in a binary world, a world in which humans are Quasi's straddled between robotics and carbon-based. WIth 2 Golden Web Awards, 365+ worldwide exhibitions, 33 published books of digital painting and poetry, she now investigates the symbiosis between AI and human intelligence. website | blog

Krepildockerschpe

I was born old

In the garden of knowing.

         An open circle

         An eye

         A dot

An id-less I

A dot

With not

An identity

Not yet.

A Krepildockerschpe to be.

I thrived in Babylonia

I flourished in China

I spoke Mayan

My ending

Your beginning.

I grew younger by the hour

I grew to know my skin

(Does it taste different from yours?)

My eye color (variegated)

My shoe size (undisclosed)

My Krepildockerschpe (untranslated)

But they are not me.

What exactly is not me?

Does not me have an identity, a presence?

Can I touch not me, find it in the mirror?

Is not-me my twin

In

Reverse?

Is there another

Uni-verse, multi-verse

Where not me’s converse?

If Me can traverse there

Can we, I and Me,

Come back

To

Sanity? Reality? Identity?

To Krepildockerschpe?

I am a polyglot.

I speak ancient languages

Of hope and joy.

Compassion and love.

The language of orchids cries out to me

The voices of earthworms whisper to me.

I wear a trouser

I wear a skirt.

I am some people

All people

Those who came

Those yet to come.

I am post-gender

Free gender

Egoless

Judgement undressed.

Before Earth

Was,

I was.

Eager to impart, to absorb, to reveal

To be part

Of.

Earth will eventually exit the sky

Earth has a use-by date

Not I.

Tomorrow the Me will be born once again

Tomorrow the not me will age and then

Replenish the cycle of growing

And knowing

That a dot and an eye

Can identify

As a nought, zero

Mathematical hero.

The kingdom of empty

Refurbished with plenty.

I am the King of the Empire of We

We are the reason that all came to be.

We are the Krepildockerschpe.

Can this be true, for you? For me?

Only the knower knows, you see.

And she speaks Krepildockerschpe.
