The End or the Beginning?

Richa

Artwork part of ‘Emergence’ Issue 9

The Science

Richa created this artwork as wall art in their café. Two years ago, they witnessed floods in Jibhi, a small village in Himachal Pradesh, India. As a part of the community here, they were able to observe people's behaviour towards nature. They created this artwork as satire to spread awareness of climate change, to try to develop our perspective and understand our role. Blue dots in the artwork represent water. Man-made buildings are underwater, and the animal kingdom flourishes in submerged cities.

We as human society have failed to maintain balance with nature. As per climate change researchers, in the future sea level will rise and coastal cities will be submerged in water. Human focus on development, achievement and success will lead us to this point. In the process of development, we as society, by default, create bigger issues for ourselves and for our own generation.
