The Science
This poem is inspired by a lot of what consumes my mind: movies, books, my past lectures, and my own mental gymnastics. The scientific references I include are that of circadian rhythm, the philosophy of ‘as above so below’ originating from Hermeticism and the occult, and the rules of physics that dictate to us (and to all matter) why we are the way we are. Circadian rhythm, known as the biological clock of an organism as dictated by its environment, is represented in the "Batik" background I photographed for this poem. Batik is a hand-made Indonesian patterned cloth, which to me resembles stomata. Stomata are cells in the epidermis of plants, primarily in the leaves, that function in the exchange of gases.

The Artist
Tamara Yunike is an agricultural journalist with a background in the study of biology. For her, biology is not only a subject of knowledge, but also a passionate interest. Tamara also enjoys reading classical poems by Western, Arabian, and Indonesian poets. Tamara is not a native English speaker but finds her poetry is best expressed in the English language.
