Inclusivity Statement

The Consilience team is committed to supporting diversity, equality, and inclusion across all disciplines.

The Consilience journal is committed to the principles of equality of opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. We are committed to facilitating the inclusion of contributions from all publics regardless of race, age, culture, ability, ethnicity or nationality, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, marital status, religious affiliation, and socioeconomic status. We believe that making visible, diverse contributions leads to richer debates and knowledge in the areas of science, the humanities, and beyond.

To this end, we are practising non-discrimination in our own development with a diverse and inclusive team who are committed to:

  • Working to reduce physical, social, and economic barriers to participation in the journal and making reasonable adjustments to meet specific access requirements.

  • Providing a positive and inclusive experience for everyone who submits to the journal, including those with disabilities and other access requirements.

  • Cultivating an awareness of the ways in which various social, cultural, political, or economic privileges are, at any given time, accessible to some participants and not others.

We pay attention to a conscious handling of potentially incriminating and triggering topics. To this end, we use content notes (CN) so that reader can decide for themselves whether and when they want to read a poem. Example: “[CN: Transphobia]“.  When in doubt, we prefer to use content notes once more than once too little. We avoid reproducing discriminatory statements or terms verbatim. If they are quotes, please still consider whether they are needed and how they are placed in the appropriate context.

Code of Conduct

  • Unwelcome sexual attention

  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour

We expect all members of the Consilience team and anyone who submits work to the journal or who contacts the journal for any other purpose to follow these rules at all times. Anybody found violating these rules may be sanctioned or banned from participating in the journal.
