shared roots

Rebecca Hooper

i stand on this precipice
between a swallowing of blues
and i ask

what is this
edge
that binds us?

as much within the seas
as it is among the stars

today it is called science
yesterday
it was called art

we may draw lines on these clifftops but
we are looking at the same unknowns

The Science

I am fascinated by the connection between art and science. Often viewed as opposites, both require creativity and a desire to explore the unknown, and both are driven by the need to contextualise our lives. This piece is a brief exploration of their shared foundations.

The Poet

I am a PhD student interested in ecology and evolution, and I dabble in poetry. I live in Cornwall, UK, and spend most of my free time exploring the coastline, swimming in the sea and wandering graveyards.
