Time is quickening

Mary Allen

from the first trillionth of a second,
when the cosmos could be held
in a human hand,
each neutrino, gluon, lepton
accelerates headlong,
into still becoming space.

on earth lives flare then go out,
but not before creating
something beyond the reach of time,
more mysterious than dark energy.
Becoming
ripples like waves through a continually
creating universe.

my mortal body is only a fragment of me,
atoms held together
by forces              in the field of time.
The rest is empty space  a moment of         eternity
where something
unknowable lies.

The Science

The science behind this poem is the creation of the universe, when time was also created.
