About Consilience

Consilience is an online journal that provides a platform for people to write poems and create artwork about science, however that might be interpreted.

In order to address the barriers that payments can present to some audiences in submitting work, we want to keep Consilience free for all creative submissions. We believe that poetry and art should be accessible to everyone who wants to engage with it.

Consilience is entirely run by volunteers who want to turn their passion for the sciences and the arts into a new collection of work for audiences of all kinds to enjoy. We are excited to receive your submissions and work with you to publish your work!

What sort of poems and artwork does Consilience look for?

We welcome poetry and artwork of all kinds, as long as it is about science, is related to the theme of the upcoming issue, and adheres to our Inclusivity Statement.

How does the peer review system work?

After you have submitted your poem, it will be initial be read by a group of Editors who will select the top 20 poems for each issue based on their link to the science and theme of the issue; we will also prioritise poetry from poets who have not been published with us before. These 20 poems will then be sent to two independent Reviewers who will give their feedback, passing this on to an Editor who will then work with you in developing your poem or artwork for publication. This might involve re-working some elements, or it might be as simple as saying "Keep everything exactly as it is!” Rest assured that we will work with you in a dialogue and that nothing will be published without your consent. We aim to respond to all submissions within four weeks.

How do I submit my poetry or artwork to Consilience?

Visit the Submit page to send us your poetry or artwork via our Google form. If you cannot use Google Forms then please get in touch with us at info@consilience-journal.com.

Will my poem or artwork definitely be published in Consilience?

After your poem has submitted, it might be that the poem is ‘rejected’ as not being quote the right fit for this issue. However, if this is the case then we will work with you to look for future opportunities to publish with us.

Can I submit artwork for the cover?

The cover art is chosen from the artwork that is submitted to each issue, so if you submit your artwork for an issue then it will be considered.
