Bias

Stephanie Bull

Art Cover of Consilience Issue 3

The Concept

Bias is an inescapable part of being human. We are all made up of our own experiences, and all observe from a unique position. Much like our individual interpretations of art, interpretation of scientific data can be shaped by the way that you look at the data, and your unconscious biases. For this piece, I started by placing figures in a data "landscape", and by doing so, seeing how their positions and perspectives influenced what they could see. These figures are also made up of data points, representing their experiences, and these shape how they interpret the data.
