Genesis

Alanah Knibb

Artwork part of ‘Emergence’ Issue 9

The Science

A celebration of Liquid Nano Clay technology, developed by Norwegian researcher Kristian Olesen to convert sand into fertile soil. The technology saw its first major success in the UAE early last year in the culmination of a 200kg harvest of fruit and vegetables, donated to feed local communities. The project still has a field of obstacles to overcome in order to make the technology affordable and accessible to sub Saharan African farms, where its impact will truly be felt.

Genesis is an ode to emerging technologies and aims to capture the budding hope that stems from new technology and the ever-present threat of failure. Much like how life emerged from a soup of basic building blocks, Genesis shows plant life emerging from a soup of sand and Liquid Nano Clay.
