Stratonight

Roland Eichinger

The Science

The piece shows the circulation of the middle atmosphere with ascending air in the tropics, poleward movement in three branches of the atmosphere and sinking motion in the high latitudes. The stars represent mixing, leading to exchange between the branches. The piece solely bases itself on elements from van Gogh's painting ‘The Starry Night’.
